From 8th to 10th November 2019, Game Happens – the International Festival in Italy dedicated to the cultural, political and social impact of video games – returns to Genova with a fifth edition that focuses on the most innovative elements of the European independent video game scene, to link this field with the other creative, cultural and technological industries. The 2019 theme is Elements of Change.
In the year that commemorates both the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and the centenary of the birth of Primo Levi, an author who was able to combine chemistry and literature together, Game Happens treasures a transdisciplinary approach to culture and explores the single elements that are redefining the video game as a means of communication and expression.
Particular attention will be given to representing the diversity of the authors who belong to the independent game scene and are responsible of innovating the field thanks to their creativity and specific cultural heritage.
Game Happens Festival is divided into two main formats: a conference, in English, aimed at industry professionals, but also at students who want to start working in the field, and an exhibition, which is open to the general public, where people are invited to get in touch with some of the most groundbreaking independent games.

Dall’8 al 10 novembre 2019, Game Happens – il Festival internazionale dedicato all’impatto culturale, politico e sociale dei videogiochi – torna a Genova con una quinta edizione per mostrare gli elementi più innovativi del videogioco indipendente europeo, per mettere in relazione il settore con le altre industrie creative, culturali e tecnologiche. Il tema 2019 è Elements of Change.
Nell’anno celebrativo dei 150 anni della Tavola Periodica degli Elementi Chimici e nel Centenario della nascita di Primo Levi, autore che ha saputo unire chimica e letteratura, Game Happens fa tesoro della transdisciplinarietà culturale ed esplora i singoli elementi che stanno ridefinendo il videogioco come un mezzo di comunicazione e di espressione.
Particolare attenzione è dedicata alla diversità di autori e autrici che abitano oggi il settore indipendente, ovvero quella produzione di videogiochi dalla forte componente autoriale, frutto di un’innovazione che è innanzitutto creativa e legata alle proprie radici culturali.
Il Festival Game Happens è suddiviso in due parti: una conferenza, in inglese, rivolta a chi lavora nell’industria dei videogiochi, ma anche a studenti e studentesse che vogliono entrare a far parte del settore, e una mostra aperta alla città in cui tutte le persone sono invitate a provare i titoli indipendenti selezionati che meglio rappresentano gli elementi del cambiamento dell’industria creativa.
