How to Make Personal Games the “Right Way” (AKA: Don’t Forget Therapy)

Game Happens 2019 – Conference
Saturday 9 November, Afternoon Sessions

Game developers should be encouraged to pull from their personal lives to create intimate, authentic games which have the potential to communicate with a wide audience. However, there’s a slippery slope when it comes to using your own life to inspire fiction: It shouldn’t replace therapy. Through discussing the development of her most recent autobiographical game Half, Emma Kidwell will explain how to go about making personal games on emotional topics while also taking care of your mental health.
